I came into the office to find everybody bad mouthing the boss of the office inside the lunch room. They were mocking him, it was actually pretty funny, but I was surprised to see that they acted in this way. Afterwards, they assigned me some tasks to make a flyer for an upcoming event on the budget cuts. The guy who assigned me to do the task, seemed really relieved that I had to do it instead of him. I get this feeling that they dump all of the work they don't want to do on me. As I was working on it, the field representative who works in the office was in such a frustrated and frantic mood that she got mad at all of the papers I was printing. I had to explain to her that it was for the other guy, and she just pulled all of my papers out of the printer, and i couldn't say anything. I finished up that task as quick as I could, so I wouldn't annoy anybody else, even though it wasn't my fault!
Then everybody got called into a meeting so I had to man the desks and the phones. I heard them inside of their "official" meeting because they left the door open. I thought they were going to be discussing bills to be passed, or what work they had to conduct for the assemblymember, but instead they were discussing their bowling night and which office they were going to compete against. SOUNDS FUN... I answered the phones, and the assemblymember called in asking for her chief of staff, I couldn't hear her name when she said it so when I repeated Who? She sounded SOOO mad, I got scared and ran to the chief of staff so he could answer the phone.
So as I sat outside, I entered data into the system. The letters were from people who were in support of the new law that Arizona made against illegal immigrants. IT MADE ME SOOOO UPSET! These people were writing to the assembly member to enact a bill such as the one from Arizona in order to really regulate the illegal immigrants. One thing that caught my attention was the part where it said police can question anybody that they feel might be illegal, THIS IS GOING TO LEAD to sooooo much racial profiling I can't even believe it. People in California believe that by regulating the illegal immigrants it will made california's debt go away and allow the "legal people" to get jobs and make our state rich again. This is so stupid to me...

Kristen - after having read your comment I decided to read the Arizona legislation 1070.
ReplyDeleteI suggest everyone to read it. I read it but I didn't see what part racially profiles and targets. I will read it again. However, I did see that part which says that it is now illegal to ride in a car with someone who you know is an illegal. Or to offer them shelter. This can target Churches, schools and needbased community organizations that offer help to undocumented people. I think that's bad.
